I had my annual appraisal yesterday. Now, we're fairly informal here, so there was a certain amount of off-topic chat. However, I do find it slightly disconcerting that my line manager was praising someone else's abilities. Even though said someone isn't even a member of our company.

So, [livejournal.com profile] _hypatia_, you're definitely liked over here.

It's rather weird to be using three different C++ compilers, running under two different OSes, compiling the same source files residing on the same sectors of the same hard drive, on the same PC.

Simultaneously.

Oh my

Some things are just too weird.

Coffee beer?!

I suppose it may stop drunkenness, if the drinker ends up with a strong caffeine buzz before the worst effects of the alcohol kick in.

Winter has come a little sooner than I expected

Two hours ago, it was a miserable, grey mid-November evening.

Now, we've got half an inch of snow already lying, and it's still coming down. I didn't see any sign of gritting, so the roads round Royston could be interesting tonight.
