Digging up the College lawn

I'm amused to note that when artist Quentin Blake celebrates 800 years of Cambridge in a mural at Addenbrookes, one of the events he decides to picture is Dorothy Garrod digging up Newnham College lawn, as celebrated by [livejournal.com profile] uitlander.

I was just watching it and squeed "she's digging at Newnham!" Then Blake said "I have no idea if she every dug there, but it was her college" and I promptly went "yes she did!"

Lovely mural.

Wot? No hatboxes?

Fantastic mural, I do love Quentin Blake's illustrations. Yay for Rosalind Franklin too!

Thank you for the heads up. The DofS is pretty pleased as well, although she's also complaining that he says he doesn't know whether she actually did excavate in the gardens (we all know she did). I've asked the 800 campaign if we can have some copies of the panel.

Nice to see Rosalind Franklin mentioned, I'll have a walk around to C&D and have a look at this when I pick Sharon up from work tonight.
