28: Eoin Colfer - Artemis Fowl
Author: Eoin Colfer
Title: Artemis Fowl
Genre: YA/Fantasy
Published: Puffin, 2002
Pages: 280
Purchased: Borders, Cambridge, 2004-04-03, £5.99
ISBN: 0-14-131212-2
This time, the first in the series (see a previous review for the second volume).
OK, this was great fun. Artemis Fowl is only twelve when he decides to kidnap Holly Short, an elf in the Lower Elements Police (Recon) division (aka LEPrecon), and ransom her back to the lower world for a ton of gold. The usual hi-jinks (usual? Well, usual by the second volume, then) ensue, Fowl is suitably cunning, baddies are suitably nasty, and the end is suitably clever to let you believe the twist.
Just as good as the second.
