For those who may have been expecting to see us this weekend, my apologies. But I had a bad cold (what women often refer to as 'flu), and had no desire to inflict it on all you lot.

With luck, next weekend should be sniffle free.

I have also heard it called "man-flu" here. Never "girl flu" or similar.

Yes, it's usually phrased the otherway around, that for what Women would refer to as a mild cold with sniffles, a man would declare that he had flu.

Of course if we swop it around, then the mild sniffles you had could (in a non-PC world) be described as "bird flu" (g, d & r v.fast!)

As my GP once said when I visited his clinic saying I had the flu - if you can stand up you dont have the flu.

I gave up smoking due to the 'flu once. I spent three days in a 'do I really want a cigarette so much I'm going to crawl out of this bed or not?' mood, and by the end of that, the nicotine craving had long since passed.

Oddly enough, I've never quite got round to suggesting this to the NHS for an anti-smoking program.

I gave up smoking due to the 'flu once.

Same here. I spent two weeks in bed. Then mom took me out for a day's "fresh air" (and Bingo!{shudder}) and we smoked. I returned to my sick bed for another two weeks and then never smoked for another eight years.

As the doctor said at the time when I complained it was "only 'flu" - "Don't underestimate it. It can kill you."

My one experience of the 'flu involved spending most of a week in bed. It amuses / irritates me (depending on the circumstances) to see people who are upright and functioning almost-normally claiming to have the 'flu.
