I'm amused by this BBC report: a cider factory in Shepton Mallet is cooling its cider by running it through a heat exchanger at the nearby swimming pool.

Dear Lord,

How long does it take to build gcc 4.2.0 on a Sparc box running Solaris 8? I just want to know whether I should go to lunch now, or not.

(And for those that might wonder why I'm not using the gcc 3.3.2 already on it, that's because I use wide strings in C++, and in my experience, gcc has only recently got that working seamlessly in 4.0 and later.)

ETA: OK, I did the lunch hour (haircut, shopping, etc.). The compilation is still going. The box is a SunFire V120 for those who want details.
