Noisy bird

A DC-3, that is.

Chatting to a colleague, I noticed a large plane die on in the distance, stooging along the horizon. Wandered out onto the balcony to get a clearer view, and noticed it turning.

It flew directly overhead, at relatively low altitude.

Not long before they're grounded for good...

Sad day that, I remember when they were a mainstay of the flights to and from my home island - right up until the mid 70s.

I wonder how long an aircraft can be kept flying. Given sufficiently good maintenance, the Gooney Bird or the Auntie Ju should go on quite a long time.

Apparently Air Atlantique have to ground theirs later this year, as they can't make them compliant with the latest air safety regulations.

I suppose the regulations for carrying passengers are going to be a lot stiffer than those for display flights.

I suspect this afternoon's was out of Duxford.
