F1 shenanigans

So (according to the Beeb) Renault have been a 2 year ban.

Suspended.

Flavio has been banned from all FIA events for an unlimited period (presumably, that means 'for life).

Symonds has a 5 year ban from F1, and I suspect he feels lucky to only have that much.

Think they'll stick around for next season?

I think they probably have to, otherwise it'd be hard to ever come back.

Gosh. Not really a lot to say, but, Gosh.

(I note that the ban doesnt start until after next season)

No, it's suspended, starting now, for 2 years. Like a suspended sentence in a UK criminal court, this means the ban is waiting to be enacted at any point in the next 2 years, if Renault do anything else naughty. If they're good boys for the 2 years, the ban goes away without ever being enacted.

Cheers. I misunderstood that.

And for the moron who actually drove his car into a wall putting himself, his competitors, the stewards and - gosh - the paying public at risk? Why, nothing of course, because he is a man of principle who ratted out his mates and employers a long time after the event and then only because he was told what everyone else had known for a long time, that he wasn't good enough for F1 whatever his father had done.

This leaves a nasty taste in the mouth.

That may be so, but on the other hand, without NP coming forward, we'd not know about it at all. And he wouldn't have done so without immunity.

Sometimes, we have to be pragmatic.

And he won't be driving an F1 again, I think.

Interestingly, Autosport claims that with only minor reading between the lines, their race report at the time said that his crash was deliberate. I don't always read them, having watched, and I don't recall that; I no longer keep them, so can't check.
