It appears that Champagne should be poured down the side of the glass, rather than over the centre.

I'm sorry, I thought that was the natural way for anyone who respects the stuff to pour it.

Why is this even news? The point of Champagne is the bubbles, otherwise you're just drinking wine and that's no fun at all. Of course you pour it in the way that maximizes the bubble-content.

Beats me, too.

I can understand that there is a place for researchers to go out and check the common sense assumptions, because that's the only way you find out where common sense is wrong. But if every case where common sense was right was to be reported, there'd be no place left for reporting when it turned out wrong.
