I don't understand why companies do this. Except Jarvis, come to think of it, who might want to get away from their reputation...

Marketing want to justify their salaries. Having been involved in renaming everything from various domains to kewill.net and then immediately renamed again to netconnect.net.uk, I suppose in a sense they get to justify the salaries of everyone who has to actually implement the change too. (I notice that the whois for the latter domain is years out of date.)
