Royal Mail + Amazon = Impressive

Order made to Amazon on 21st December 2006
Order received by post on 22nd December 2006

OK, so that order was made early in the morning yesterday, but for it to have been delivered today is pretty impressive.

Christmas rush? What Christmas rush? I've never had an Amazon delivery that fast before.

(Amazon are currently advising me it won't actually arrive till after the 25th. I have to assume that the 45 minute drive between here and the nearest Amazon warehouse can actually translate into a quick delivery.)

The guy who used to be my lodger used to work about ten minutes' walk from the original UK warehouse. He'd place an order in the morning and a chap would bring it down the road in time for lunch!

I do get tempted to try a Hotel Chocolat equivalent - but though their registered office is the other side of our carpark at work, they now pack the other end of the county.

I certainly followed one of our neighbours all the way from the moment we did an 'after you, Claude' moment in front of the house all the way to the adjacent gates one time. But I think that neighbour moved.

My favourite Royal Mail moment was when I ordered some memory from Crucial (who are, lest we forget, in Livingston, north of the border) at about 1600, and the postman woke me up at 0700 the next morning (which is, IIRC, the earliest possible time the Royal Mail officially considers it okay to knock on your door) to get me to sign for it. Special Delivery really kicks ass.

Not bad. The return address for this was Clydebank, but I do rather guess it had come in from Ridgemont.
