I see they've announced Catherine Tate is to be Doctor Who's new companion.

Umm. I'm rather unsure about her. I do hope her casting is less irritating than I fear it might be - I've just got used to a bright, intelligent companion, and now it looks like we may be getting a dumb one again.

I'm more than unsure: I'm livid. I've never liked anything she's done, she's objectionable and talentless and turns everything to dross. She appeals to the morons who'll watch anything as long as it has recurring catchphrases, grotesques, and not a shred of originality. See also: Little Britain.

Didn't they learn anything from her appalling performance in the Christmas episode?

Oh thank god, other unsure people. I don't like her. I thought she did ok in the christmas ep but generally I don't like her. So I am prepared to be pleasantly surprised but more than a little unsure...

I think it's important to separate Tate the actress from Tate the writer. Unfortunately, though I think she can act well, the character we've already seen is much like the characters she herself writes, and if we're stuck with that character, oh dearie, dearie me.

That's a good way of putting it. I can see she is talented but I can't watch the Catherine Tate show. The sketches are too..puerile.

The character was very like one of her own and since she is so popular in the UK it probably went down well. But she got on the Doctors nerves so I can't see him going back and asking her to join him again and having her as a regular companion unless she calms down.

Having said that he DID ask her to join him the first time around and I have to put that down to his grief over Rose, cause otherwise he needs his head examined!
