Ouch!

Helsinki is an expensive city to try to find a hotel room in. It's just as well we're only thinking of staying three nights before moving on to Tallinn the other side of the Gulf of Finland.

(In Tallinn, we will be staying in what looks to be a charming place in the Old Town, a building actually in the old city walls, built on the foundations of a defensive tower. In Helsinki, we'll be in the SAS Radisson Old Fish Cannery.)

2 weeks ago I stayed at the Radisson in Espoo, a 20 min taxi ride from Helsinki centre (~26 Euros each way). The hotel looks out onto a lake and was 100 Euros a night, if that is any help.

Sounds nice.

Mind you, by the time those taxi rides are factored in, it's more expensive :-(

No, I've booked the Radisson Seaside, and it looks quite nice.

*nods* that was the one I thought I was being booked into, but sadly it turned out to be full.

I've got respect for the SAS Radisson chain: I stayed in the Geneva one once, and we've stayed in the Basel one a couple of times. The Basel one had souundproofing to die for.

I was generally impressed, although I'd have preferred it if my room's LCD TV's welcome screen had not defaulted to requesting my credit card details so that I could avail myself of their p0rn channel every time I turned it on. The free to view channels were a tad buried in the menu :-)

Annoying: my personal preference would be for the TV to show the menu only at checkin. I find it annoying to return to the room and find the set on.

It's a shame you can't use the iPod as a modem onto the WiFi: I'm having a little difficulty decoding that. Which Radisson are you at?

(I'm assuming the iPod virtual keyboard is the problem there, and not one too many glasses of nice wine. Nah, too much wine is my excuse, you can't have it.)
