"Severn Bridge closed, England cut off"

Roads: Both Severn Crossings were closed when ice began falling from the top of bridge structures onto cars and smashing windscreens.

From the BBC news site

Umm, yeah.

Here, a colleague coming in this morning got to within a mile of here before giving up, turning round and going home again. It's been alternating between snow and sleet, and was falling quite thickly at 9:00 (easily obscuring a car windscreen in 10 minutes flat), but is currently is falling as a light fine powder.

C's school has a very friendly SMS service, sending messages about school closures. This morning when she got up, there was a message saying her school would be open as usual. Sulking somewhat she and a friend who tends to come past got ready to leave, just waiting for another friend (because teenage girls can't walk alone), when the phone went da-bing again, informing us that due to detoriating conditions, school would be closed.

Unfortunately, I had been promised a lie-in in order to be fresh for today's interview, and the subsequent shouting and jubilation woke me up quite thoroughly. On the other hand, a couple of the engineers who were going to interview me didn't make it to work today, so it's been postponed to some time next week.
