ICE in London

There's an ICE at St Pancras today.

They are such pretty trains.

I approve, though 2013 is a bit late - we could have done with this on Saturday, as it would cut out a change at Brussels and give us more time in Cologne.

More time in Koeln is always good.

If I wasn't oncall today I might have gone to see it...

They run on the Rhine route past Freiburg down to Basel. They're definitely one of my favourite train sets.

London to Amsterdam! Woohoo :)

Edited to add: even better, looks like they'll stop at Rotterdam (more convenient for us visting most of our Dutch friends), and a journey time of 4 hours is close to competitive with flying.

That's the London to Rotterdam part being 3 hours.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that that's actually as fast as you could make it, centre to centre.
