Blood and Feathers
... are not what I want to have to cope with at stupid o'clock of a morning.
Damn cat. In the 36 hours since we reclaimed him from the cattery, that was the fourth time he'd brought in a pigeon. Having to wake up, grab cat, grab pigeon, keep cat from pigeon and pigeon from flying off round bedroom (though it was pretty stunned, and probably about dead anyway), etc., etc., is not conducive to a good night's sleep.

Hmm, you know, you're right. Six breasts would have made a nice little pie. On the other hand, we swear that at least once we've had a pigeon brught in that was dead before the cat got it. Otherwise, we can't see how a corpse can turn into a pile of maggots in 24 hours flat.
(Literally so. We stayed overnight in Brizzle, came back the following afternoon, picked up the corpse on the stair landing, and had a two inch high squirming cone of maggots pour out. Even assuming 8 hours from egg laying to maggot hatch, I sincerely doubt the maggots could have taken all the flesh that fast.)
