... are not what I want to have to cope with at stupid o'clock of a morning.

Damn cat. In the 36 hours since we reclaimed him from the cattery, that was the fourth time he'd brought in a pigeon. Having to wake up, grab cat, grab pigeon, keep cat from pigeon and pigeon from flying off round bedroom (though it was pretty stunned, and probably about dead anyway), etc., etc., is not conducive to a good night's sleep.

Same pigeon or different ones?

Pigeon 1 was alive and released. We think it may have been the same as pigeon 2, which we discovered later, on its back in a wardrobe. Pigeon 3 was also dead, when removed from cat's jaws, and pigeon 4 was just alive. So, either 3 or 4 different birds.

The first three were in 5 hours.

There's good eating on one of those you know..

And on 4? (Or 3, assuming the first was caught twice.)

Hmm, you know, you're right. Six breasts would have made a nice little pie. On the other hand, we swear that at least once we've had a pigeon brught in that was dead before the cat got it. Otherwise, we can't see how a corpse can turn into a pile of maggots in 24 hours flat.

(Literally so. We stayed overnight in Brizzle, came back the following afternoon, picked up the corpse on the stair landing, and had a two inch high squirming cone of maggots pour out. Even assuming 8 hours from egg laying to maggot hatch, I sincerely doubt the maggots could have taken all the flesh that fast.)

That's not what we normally mean when talking about eating pussy.

Kaboom-tish.

ah, yes, they *do* know how to let us know they're displeased that their slaves left them, don't they?

Annie (the 10-year-old long-haired/Siamese mix - looks very like a Himalayan - that I acquired, not entirely intentionally, three days before I left for Iceland) *seems* quite affectionate, but it's all just a plot to power-shed that lovely long fur.

Nah, they know you've been missing and therefore need feeding up, there's no point in letting you die of hunger as you'll then not be able to pamper them.

We've mostly dealt with the sulking lovebirds, they're getting extra flight time atm.

Well, Annie had two substitute-slaves while I was gone, so probably had no fears of lack of pampering. But yeah, there's some sort of ... self-interest? :) in there somewhere, probably.

Lovebirds sulk too? good grief.

Isn't that timing somewhat ... odd?

As for the fur everywhere, yeek! (Though I've always liked the look of the Somali.)

Odd doesn't begin to describe it.

I knew I was going to have to have Twitch put down the Tuesday before I left; advanced liver failure, cardiomyopathy, etc.

On the Monday, a friend of Randy's wanted to know if I knew anyone who needed a cat, *right away* - her daughter was combining households with her significant other, and there were too many cats.

So... Wednesday, there I was up in Bothell getting acquainted with Annie... *wry*

How she could give up a cat she'd had for 10 years, I don't know... and I got the medical records from the vet, she'd been indoor/outdoor and hadn't had her shots for six years. *mutter*grumble* some people *grumble*mutter*

I wasn't ready for another cat yet, but I guess the universe or whatever decided that another cat needed me, y'know?

...and there was yet another one that I caught Talia in the middle of eating in the conservatory when I got back from town this afternoon :-(

I think we need to ask the cattery which cat they may have been roomed next to. They've definitely upped their kill rate.

I have always wanted Whisky to bring home a pigeon - I think it is her duty to kill fluffy /furry things: I don't want to hamper her feline development. Somehow encouraging noises have not resulted in her winning the Order of the Pigeon or Squirrel - she seems to prefer to play with the fluffy/furry/scaly things she finds. Like the slowworm, frogs or other small things.

Recently, however, she has failed to bring home anything of interest: I have not had a Present bought for over a year, which means she is getting lazy. Middle age-spread is setting in, too.

So congratulations on your pigeon (sorry about the maggots, ew)!

It's this sort of thing that makes me not feel too bad at being woken up an stupid o'clock by Parsley sticking his face into mine and purring loudly. That's a civilized annoyance. And since I frequently wake up for no apparent reason at stupid o'clock anyway, it's kind of nice to have a reason. He's still not brought anything in, despite the warnings that he would—although [livejournal.com profile] gywnipeghas.

Yes, we don't mind that.

Even waking us up by sitting on a head and purring loudly are reasonable (if somewhat tiresome when done too often).

(Last night, we locked them out of the bedroom, though.)
