Charles Sheffield: Resurgence

Paperback: 448 pages

ISBN-10: 0743488199
Category(ies): SF

Sadly for this review, I read this book some months ago, and can now remember relatively little about it. Since it was one of the last books that Sheffield wrote, that's a little sad.

On to the facts - it's the third book in the Heritage Universe series, which has as its premise the existence of the Builders, who millions of years before set up the clade structure of the galaxy. Areas where particular intelligent species may predominate. And the Builders have long since gone.

Much of this story involves the protagonists finding out more about the Builders, and in the process of uncovering the past, they will be better predicting the future. Of course, to find out information, they end up in the path of danger. And so this is a relatively humdrum adventure story.

I'm not wildly enamoured of this series: there Sheffield wrote other stuff that I prefer, though I didn't actively dislike this. In general, then, OK, but not great.
