The last time I saw my niece was probably about ten years ago. When she was a pre-teen.

Now she's going up Kilimanjaro.

In fact, she'll be spending her 21st birthday on the mountain.

Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] grumblesmurf and [livejournal.com profile] uitlander for the recommendations to go to the Sweeney & Todd's Pie place in Reading. It was a pretty good choice of venue (except Mother getting a little lost). It fulfilled an added requirement, that Mother be droppable right outside the door: her having to go up and down stairs for the loo was probably the only downside.

This was the first time the entire family had been together since our wedding, back in 1996. Nephew and niece have both grown somewhat, and grown well, too. They'd also brought along their current partners, and the four of them, Charles and Lucy, and Purdey and Ruben, all seem to get along very well together in the world of Oxford student housing. (And no, they're not all in the same house.)

S&T's pies were good, and the fact we escaped at the end, none of us able to eat any more, for a total of £150 for 10 of us is pretty good going.

And now, tonight, Bradford.
