Today is the 151st anniversary of the Pig War, so named for its only casualty.

(Part of Fort Bellingham was dismantled and shipped to San Juan Island as a result.)

This evening, we should finish the planting that we started last Saturday.

On Saturday, we planted 40 strawberry plants (and surrounded them with rare breed bull manure), 80 tomatoes of two varieties, 160 cauliflours, and about 60 shallots. We also got netting over the strawberries and tomatoes.

Today, Brussels sprouts and beans.

It's bad enough that there are puppy farms, but it seems that in this modern age, nothing is sacred. I refer you to the following headline as seen on the BBC News website:

ETA: Come to think of it, it might be a possible solution for the upland farms that can't make sheep pay. Those children raised on the high fells should make excellent chimney sweeps, and the Peak District would also profit from a ready source of youngsters to work in cotton mills reopened for the authentic tourist experience.
