Inspired by a tweet by [livejournal.com profile] liasbluestone, I've just been browsing to see who went to the same college as me. And then I started wandering down Wikipedia's list of alumni to see what interesting first names there were (especially from past generations), remembering [livejournal.com profile] la_marquise_de_'s recent post on names in fantasy.

Morien.
Ofspring.
Kevin. Oh ok, the antithesis of an interesting name (though High Lord Kevin is an actual fantasy character), but a contemporary of mine who died a few years ago.
Somtow.

Hmm, that is an unusual name, but one I recognise. Wait a moment, that's Somtow Sucharitkul, currently trading as S P Somtow. That's one of those wonderfully exotic names - but because I first encountered him in the pages of US SF magazine Asimov's, I always assumed he was a Thai/American writer. I'd never thought him associated with this country, let alone going to the same college as me.

I notice that Lord Taylor (on trial for corruptly claiming travel expenses from Oxford) lives just around the corner from where we lived in North Ealing.

Well, 10 minutes walk to his street from our old house.

Looking at Google Maps, I also discovered the surname of our former neighbour - there's a little box over that house, with her psychotherapy business listed.
