WoW Patch

I see we're getting a WoW patch today. Not a huge one, thank goodness, but they're changing behaviour slightly for several classes.

Death Knights among them.

More interestingly for me, attempting to connect (yes, I know, the servers aren't supposed to be back up yet) gets me an interesting error message saying that my game client version cannot be validated. Well, that's likely to be that the servers aren't yet up.

Oh, the withdrawal symptoms while a patch is being applied. I mean, not able to play for 10 hours - oh, the horror!

Yeah, on patch day you can get all sorts of different errors depending which parts of the server farm have come up yet. It'd be fascinating to see a schematic of their internal layout. I do know that what we see as a realm is actually several servers (or possibly several processes on the same server), while multiple instances from different realms actually are held on the same instance server. There there's the internal "link" servers that handle messaging between the clusters, etc...

Apparently the patch is breaking lots of things in the US (where they got it yesterday).

It usually means that the worst bugs (like the missing in-game mail on US realms last time) are fixed before our realms finally go live.
