It seems that that wine-imbibing chef Keith Floyd has died.

(His death is much more affecting to me than Swayze's, having watched many, many more hours of him.)

Ditto, but I suspect this means he's been Huxleyed as well.

Yes, there is that.

Absolutely - I used to watch 'Floyd on...' religiously as a kid; the slightly chaotic setpieces were as fun as the recipes.

I thought he'd died years ago.

Oddly, he was on Channel 4 last night - 'Keith meets Keith', which was him and Keith Allen.

(The broadcaster apparently didn't feel it right to mention that the subject of the programme had died a few hours before broadcast.)

I caught the end of that. It was so amusing to see Floyd take charge of the filming. I didn't know he ended his days in Provence. What a sad life he seems to have had.

I was watching Keith Meets keith on CH4 last night and was thinking Keith Floyd was not looking at all well.

I shall have a quick slurp in his honour at lunchtime. :-(

...that was a somewhat bizarre way to learn Patrick Swayze had died...

Oh, I'm sorry. PS's death seemed to be all over my FL, but I suppose that announcement was only a few hours earlier. KF, on the other hand, is a greater influence on me, and I wanted to mark that.

Swayze's death wasn't unexpected - he was known to have pancreatic cancer, and that's one of the ones where unfortunately very few people survive for very long. Floyd, on the other hand, has sort of faded from our screens, and I don't think many knew he was actually ill. (Though given his notoriety with the bottle, a long old age did seem unlikely.)

Well, it's just this was the first post /on/ my FL, and I've never heard of KF, so it was just sort of weird.

And yeah, not unexpected. Just an odd way to learn it. :)

Oh, and an OTT PS - currently enjoying Pretender's Crown. Just how many genres are you trying to mix?

All of them. A hundred years from now it'll be Lit'rachur. :)

He taught me almost everything I needed to know about cooking with wine, I'm sure I have watched more of him than any other celebrity chef.

"I love cooking with wine. Sometimes I'll even put it in the food."

Don't normally put a glug of red into my chilli, but I think I will tonight in memoriam.

I never had much time for him,but he gave a lot of people a lot of fun and education, and you can't hold that against anyone. He'll be missed, especially by his creditors.

It's sad both ways, though I'm more affected by Swayze.

Both are people I'd have preferred not to have departed.

(I can see that Swayze may have had an appeal to a certain demographic, particularly those who rate limberness over mere muscle in a man.)

I'd echo that. Geoff and I would watch his "Floyd on..." programmes every week and I have a number of his books. He had a knack of showing how to cook the way I tend to cook - rather haphazzardly and like it wasn't the most important thing in the world.
