Question about CDs

bellinghmanIs one supposed to be able to see through a CD? I'm not talking about the centre hole, of course, but about the main playing area.
I've a pair here, just arrived, which seem to creep out my CD player on the later tracks. I find it deeply suspicious that if I hold the CD up to my screen, I can actually read through it where some of the printing is. If white light can go through, I can't see laser red being reflected.
