Sometimes, inefficiences happen

Today, I left work to go to the sorting office, where I picked up a parcel that the postman hadn't delivered to our home yesterday. (Too big for the letterbox.)
Happily, there's a gate in the back fence of our carpark, which allowed me to walk the hundred metres to the sorting office. Otherwise, I would have had to go the long way, which would have involved first passing the offices of the company that had sent me the parcel.
I do wish Icould just say to them "Keep it at your reception, send me a postcard when it's ready", but that'd only confuse the poor dears.

Date: 2006-05-17 11:59 am (UTC)Once upon a time, there was an empty plot. Well, a bunch of them, actually, but we'll concentrate on one for now.
To the north of this plot is our building. To the east is HC. To the west is the sorting office. But this plot was just scrubby ground, with a few rabbits and a very fat cat.
Oh, and there was a second emply plot, to our west and the sorting office's north. And a third empty one, to the sorting office's west. If you've followed this so far, you'll realise that there was a checkerboard pattern of buildings and empty plots.
The along came The Automation Partnership, who bought all three plots. The third, they built on. The other two became carpark (reserved for future expansion). This carpark is now happily leased out to the sorting office, HC and us. So, to get to either, I walk across the carpark.
That the plot next to them had got bought meant that HC couldn't expand sideways, so they tried to get planning permission to rebuild down by Hamleys at the other end of the road. But they didn't get it. As a result, the packing side of the business is now up Huntingdon way, with the admin down here.
