I'm currently sipping a 3 year old single malt whisky.

Yes, 3. Not 30, this was distilled in 2007 and bottled last year, which makes me feel like a child molester.

And yet it's not bad at all. Damn, I think this may be the Lolita of Whiskies.

It's 46% strength, matured in Bourbon barrels, delightfully pale. Designed by a former distiller from Laphroiag, but not peaty.

Oh, and it's English, from Norfolk.

I'll be intrigued to see how they develop over the next few years - I trust they're keeping some of the casks to age a bit longer.

The St George distillery? We did a Viking show in the village next door last year, and the distillery got a lot of strangely dressed visitors. I think they said they will offer a range of ages, so you can examine its maturation.

I only had a taste, but liked it quite a lot.

Isn't it interesting how much of a whisky's taste is from the barrel it's aged in?

Oh, and: Maker's Mark barrel #802830 will bear the name of Dave Oldbloke Budd.

Its interesting stuff, isn't it? I have a few bottles knocking around the house of both the spirit and the malt.

We have some of the spirit and the malt from St George too. Very nice it is too.
