Why?
Because for the second time in a week, I've had PC trouble. Last Friday, it was a boot drive that disappeared from the sight of the PC (though happily, a wiggle of its cables brought it back).
This time, it's another case of the Dell 24" monitor not liking powering up. Yes, a mere month or two after
bellinghwoman's let out its magic smoke, so has mine. At least we know how to get Dell to cough up a replacement. But in the meantime, anyone running a Dell 2405 WFP beware - there may be a batch that is dying at between 24 and 30 months, with power supplies not liking turn-on current surge.
So, for now, I've got the little Acer flat screen out. At least it coped with the full 1920x1200 signal - just panned the screen round the desktop.

Date: 2008-01-23 10:36 am (UTC)I then started making phonecalls to Dell. You end up going through automated menu hell, but if you ignore questions that you can't answer, and choose the nearest options to your problem, you eventually get through to a human being.
It's probably best to start off with tech support - you can ring them on 0870 9080800 between 8am and 8pm, or I note from their website that there is an option to chat with them online - although that could be a bit difficult if your monitor has blown and you don't have a spare to hand...
The thing that got me was that although getting the replacement was no problem (delivered, on the date arranged, to
