Argh!

I'm now running at 1440x900

Why?

Because for the second time in a week, I've had PC trouble. Last Friday, it was a boot drive that disappeared from the sight of the PC (though happily, a wiggle of its cables brought it back).

This time, it's another case of the Dell 24" monitor not liking powering up. Yes, a mere month or two after [livejournal.com profile] bellinghwoman's let out its magic smoke, so has mine. At least we know how to get Dell to cough up a replacement. But in the meantime, anyone running a Dell 2405 WFP beware - there may be a batch that is dying at between 24 and 30 months, with power supplies not liking turn-on current surge.

So, for now, I've got the little Acer flat screen out. At least it coped with the full 1920x1200 signal - just panned the screen round the desktop.

Symptom - turn on or come back from power save, and there's a flash and a pop from behind the power button. Thereafter it's dead.

As for getting the replacement under warranty, well, I'll tell you once I've been through it. Last time it was [livejournal.com profile] bellinghwoman who did all that.
