Birthday wishes

Happy birthday to redcountess. It's going to be an interesting year as your household increases in size. Here's hoping it all brings great happiness, even if there will be disrupted sleep, noise and messiness.

And on a more somber note - today, I remember my untwin davidstewart. This is the first 3rd February that you been gone. Fandom misses you, and will keep on missing you. Tonight, I will raise a glass to you, sad in the knowledge that this year you won't be doing so as well.

So, today it was.

The most expensive present was a pair of wall mounted Alex Lights, which arrived at my work on Thursday, and which we wall mounted that evening. They're much more sensible than ones resting on the bedside tables, because they can be angled to shine away from the other occupant of the bed. They match the pair of floor mounted ones downstairs I got for Christmas.

Also, a pair of guides - a Lonely Planet one to Japan, and a Rough Guide to Tokyo itself. We'll be there this coming early autumn.

We wandered into town this morning, and *cough* walked past the Garden House Hospice charity shop, where I mentioned that the shelves of second hand books at the back were dangerous. Damn it, so were the windows. I ended up carrying home two books. That doesn't sound so bad, but I just weighed them, and they came to 17 pounds between them. (One is an Encycopedia of Myth and Culture, the other, the heavier, a book on European Cuisines.)

And for the evening, a trip to Truc Vert in Harston, which was delightful. We had a bottle of Crozes Hermitages with the meal which was what that particular AOC should be, as compared to the result of what one will find in the supermarket, and the food was wonderful.
