This is a collection of shorter works by Egan. Unlike his novels, which on occasion risk resembling a multi-hundred page info-dump, there is not enough space to do that in a short story. Instead, the title story, as an example, manages to make a fascinating tale from an attempt to change the nature of mathematical theorems themselves when a Gödel self-contradiction is discovered, and our hero has to outrun Industrial Algebra to keep his secrets intact before they break the world's financial systems ... oh, just read it, will you?

Amazing - Egan at his best.
