The fourth Aubrey/Maturin novels.

In which Jack is now happily married with twin daughters, yet pining for the sea. Luckily for him, the Admiralty want someone to command a small force of ships to deal with the French in the Indian Ocean. A comrade from his youth reappears, yet somewhat changed for the better, it seems. Or is he?

In this, Aubrey's small force of ships is outnumbered, yet he still wants to attempt the conquest of La Réunion and Mauritius. He finds a soul mate in Colonel Keating - an Army an he can trust. And Maturin is also invaluable in destabilising the Bonepartists on the islands.

Yes, another yarn in the series. The interest here is in seeing Aubrey having to step back from commanding an individual ship to commanding a small squadron, with the attendant changes in command style. It's a temporary post, and it may not be his happiest position.
