If you are easily parasitised by pointless memes seen in the journals of people on your friends list, just because they exist, then post this same sentence in your journal.

[snicker]

I'm normally pretty meme-resistant, but there was something about that one that appealed to me.

Possibly its complete lack of jpegs, links to elsewhere, or requests for passwords...

The thing that really irritated me about the original of this one is that, 10 years ago, it'd have been fresh. 10 years ago, it was still a little bit of a novelty to have met people because of the 'net that you might otherwise not have encountered. 10 years ago, there was an Eastercon panel on it. 10 years ago, well, a bit longer to be precise, we had a wedding where already half the guests knew each other because of the 'net. And before that, there was no-one at our engagement party that we'd not met because of the 'net, not even each other.

But now it's staler than a very stale thing that has gone totally stale indeed. It'd be more interesting to know who on LJ has met no-one (really or virtually) they're pleased to have met, because of the 'net.

Um, my mum? But she's not on LJ or any other social networking sites (as far as I know).

Exactly. I'm sure I can find such people too - but they're not going to be on LJ, except possibly with unusually short friends lists (in which case, the meme would die out very fast).
