Very true.

I think there tends to be a romantic belief that 'our party's guys' would be a bit better than that. Especially those that have yet to be tainted by actual power.

Michael managed to bring Ian Duncan Smith down, maybe he's trying to collect a few more scalps.

Also true; however, after watching Blair's transformation once he got his grubby mitts on the reins of power, I am under no illusions as to what my party is likely to do when it gets into power. I am well aware that it will, to a greate or lesser extent, disappoint me. On the otehr hand, I do already know that I am not totally in agreement with it about everything, and on that basis I think I can deal more easily than I could ten years ago.

Remembering those Tory activists trying to chain themselves to the railings when Maggie T was deposed by her own party, I suspect many never get that far.
